February features exciting stage races and one-day events for both women and men, including the UAE Tour, Volta ao Algarve, and Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana. It is also the month where big names like Vollering, Pogačar and Vingegaard kick off their season.
In January 2025, the cycling season kicked off in Australia with the Tour Down Under for both women and men. The month also featured a handful of oneday races in Australia and Spain, along with the start of the AlUla Tour.
In February the calendar becomes more packed. It starts with the finishing stages of the AlUla Tour for the men, while the women take on additional one-day races in Spain and Australia. The men also participate in one-day races at the beginning of the month.
Next, the men tackle the first stage races on European soil, with Étoile de Bessèges and the Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana starting on February 5, while the women compete in the UAE Tour.
As the month progresses, both women and men take on more events, including one-day races and stage races. Highlights include the women’s Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana with Demi Vollering on the provisional start list and the men’s UAE Tour, where reigning world champion Tadej Pogačar will begin his season. The men also compete in the Volta ao Algarve, marking Jonas Vingegaard’s first race since August. The remainder of the month features a bunch of one-day races, primarily across southern Europe as well as stage races such as Vuelta a Andalucia Ruta Ciclista Del Sol, Tour des Alpes-Martimes, Tour of Rwanda and last but not least O Gran Camiño.
I am excited for more races to take place at times that are easier for us Europeans to follow, and I can’t wait to see more of the big stars kick off their seasons. Let’s go!
