May the Grand Tour season begin

The spring classics may be over, but fear not, May brings a fresh wave of exciting racing, including the first Grand Tours of the year as the men take on the Giro d’Italia, while the women face the challenge of La Vuelta Feminina.

The overview shows all the WorldTour, .Pro, and .1 races for both women and men in the month of May. Each Grand Tour stage is also marked with a small icon indicating the stage type: flat, hilly, mountainous, or an individual time trial.


Before the Grand Tours begin, we will see the concluding stages of both the Tour of Turkey and the Tour de Romandie, which both wrap up on May 4th.


The same day the Vuelta España Femenina kicks off with a team time trial. The 21 teams will take on 8.1 flat kilometres through the streets of Barcelona. Among the riders at the start is the 2023 TDFF winner and defending champion Demi Vollering aswell as newly crowned Paris-Roubaix winner Pauline Ferrand-Prévot and her teammate Marianne Vos who might be looking to take her 256th win.


These three and all the other riders will then take on another seven stages, featuring a mix of flat terrain and challenging mountain routes.


Meanwhile, the men’s Giro d’Italia kicks off on May 9th. The opening three stages take place in Albania, featuring two hilly stages with a time trial in between. After that, the race heads to Italy for the remaining 18 stages which holds opportunities for both the fast guys 🚴💨 as well as the climbers⛰️


What else?

Aside from the Grand Tours, May also features two other Women’s WorldTour stage races: Itzulia Women (May 16–18) and Vuelta a Burgos Femenina from (May 22–25)


For the women, May also includes a number of .Pro and 1.1 one-day races, as well as the start of the Women’s Tour of Norway, which kicks off on May 31st and finishes June 1st


The men also have a bunch of 1. And 1. Pro races on the calendar in May including two German races Eschborn-Frankfurt (May 1st) and Rund um Köln (May 18th) on the 29th of may three stage races also begins for the men’s peloton including the men’s edition of Tour of Norway (May 29th -> June 1st)


The men’s calendar in May also includes a range of 1.1 and 1.Pro one-day races, including two in Germany: Eschborn-Frankfurt on May 1st and Rund um Köln on May 18th. On May 29th, three stage races begin for the men’s peloton, including the men’s edition of the Tour of Norway. All three which runs through to June 1st
