Opdateret: 17. sep. 2024

Cycling World Championships overview:

The UCI 2024 Road Cycling World Championships will soon take place in Zürich, Switzerland, where more than 40 rainbow jerseys will be awarded in a series of categories, including Elite, U23, Juniors, and Para-cycling. The championships start on September 21st and runs until September 29th, featuring lots of action including time trials, mixed relays, and road races.

Saturday, September 21st

On the first day of the World Championships, the para-cyclists will kick of the action competing in the Mixed H Team Relay, starting at 17:00 with an expected finish at 17:45 local time (CEST). Here the first rainbow jerseys will be awarded to the fastest finishers. (The "H" indicates that the riders will be using handcycles instead of regular bikes.)

Sunday, September 22nd

On the 2nd day of the World Championships, we will again have some para-cycling action, this time with the B and C4-C5 time trials for women, which will be held from 10:00 to 10:45. (The “B” category indicates that the athletes are visually impaired and will be riding with a “pilot” on a tandem bike, while the “C” category refers to athletes using a regular bike. The numbers 4 and 5 indicate the degree of impairment, with 1 being the most impaired and 5 the least, so the C4-C5 riders are among the less impaired para-cyclists.)

The elite athletes will also make their debut at the 2024 Road World Championships on the 2nd day as both the women and men`s time trials will be held. The elite women and U23 women will take on a 29.9 km ITT from Gossau to Zürich starting at 12:45 and finishing at 14:45. Once the women are done, the men will start their 46.1 km ITT, which begins and ends in Zürich, and has an expected finish time of 17:30.

Monday, September 23rd

The day before featured the women's B and C4-C5 time trials, and now it's the men in these categories time for their time trials which are scheduled to start at 12:15 and expected to finish at 14:15.

In addition, we'll see the junior boys in action as they do their best on a 24.9 km ITT course starting at 9:15 with an expected finishing time of 11:30.

The U23 men will also compete in their time trial, which is identical to the one for the elite and U23 women, with 29.9 km starting from Gossau and finishing in Zürich. The first rider will roll down the ramp at 14:45 while the last rider is due to cross the finish line at 17:30.

The 4th day of the World Championships is packed with para-cycling events. The C1-3 and H3 women, as well as the C1-3 and H1-5 men, will be competing in their time trials from 11:00 to 15:30. In addition, the H1-2 and T1-2 time trials for women, and the T1-2 for men, will take place from 16:00 to 17:30. (The "T" category indicates that the athletes will be riding tricycles, with the numbers indicating the degree of impairment, similar to the "C" category, where 1 represents the most significant impairment and 5 the least.)
